CMC Europe and the Serbian City of Sombor signed a cooperation protocol on the development of a 100 MW solar power project. The company based in Hungary is a subsidiary of China National Machinery Import and Export Corp.

The City of Sombor said it would give maximum support to CMC Europe in developing and building a solar power plant on its territory. The company’s representative György Paris (pictured left) signed a cooperation protocol with Mayor Antonio Ratković (right).

There was no mention of the size in the press release, but the City Council earlier said when it approved the move that the photovoltaic facility would have a capacity of 100 MW.

CMC Europe is a subsidiary of state-owned China National Machinery Import and Export Corp., part of China General Technology Group Holding or Genertec. In December it completed a 100 MW solar power plant in Kaposvár in neighboring Hungary, where it is based. The project was worth EUR 100 million.

The cooperation with the city in northwest Serbia, near the border, was discussed when the delegation from Sombor visited the facility three months ago. The inauguration ceremony was held in late May, after the start of commercial operation.

The city is surrounded by arable land and locals there mostly lean on agriculture. Serbia authorized municipal units last month to lease low-grade agricultural land for solar farms and wind parks through tenders.
