Montenegrin state power utility Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) is launching an energy renovation project at its headquarters building. The first stage involves installing solar panels on the roof and the parking lot.
The energy renovation project at the company’s headquarters building in the city of Nikšić would enable covering about 40% of its energy needs in the first year, according to estimates of the capacities for the production of electricity.
The project envisages installing over 1,000 solar panels
“The installation of over 1,000 solar panels, coupled with the implementation of other energy efficiency measures envisaged by the project, would make [the company’s headquarters] an energy-neutral building,” according to a press release from the EPCG.
The other measures include the thermal insulation of outer walls, thermal and hydro insulation of the roof, installation of a modern heating and cooling system, and LED lighting.
The entire project will enable covering up to 97% of the building’s energy needs
The completion of all works planned under the project will significantly reduce the building’s energy consumption, which would enable the solar power plant on the roof and the parking lot to cover up to 97% of the energy needs, according to the EPCG.
The plan also involves installing four EV chargers
The plan also involves the installation of four electric vehicle (EV) chargers on the parking lot as the next step towards modernizing EPCG’s vehicle fleet, the company said.
CO2 emissions are expected to drop by nearly 1,290 tons a year
Besides the financial benefits, improving the energy performance of the 60-year-old EPCG headquarters building is also expected to cut its CO2 emissions by nearly 1,290 tons a year.
With this project, the EPCG will give a positive example of a company applying contemporary standards in energy efficiency and promoting trends to reduce the need for energy from conventional sources, according to the press release.
