The Serbian government has earmarked EUR 4.25 million for energy efficiency projects in 2020, according to the Program for financing activities and measures for improving energy efficiency in 2020.

The program will be implemented by state authorities, local municipalities and legal entities founded by the state.

The money can be used for thermal insulation of buildings, modernization of heating and cooling systems inside them, installation of indoor lighting systems and for solar collectors and public lighting as well as for the training of employees and study designs, according to the Serbian government’s decision.

The projects will be financed by the budget fund for improving energy efficiency

The implementation of the program and the commitments under the decree on the program for financing activities and measures for improving energy efficiency in 2019 will be financed by the budget fund for improving energy efficiency, in the amount of RSD 500.2 million.

The Ministry of Mining and Energy will issue a special document to cover energy efficiency projects in municipal units funded by the 2019 budget fund. The priority will be given to the modernization of public lighting systems.

Primary energy consumption not to exceed 17,981 Mtoe

The indicative goal of the Republic of Serbia in 2020 for primary energy consumption is 17,981 megatons of oil equivalent and the one for final energy consumption is 13,103 megatons. The goal is envisaged by the program for pursuing the energy sector development strategy for the period 2017-2023.

The use of renewable energy sources for own consumption is one of the goals of the program

The goals of the program for financing activities and measures for improving energy efficiency in 2020:

    • energy savings and rational use of energy by applying modern technologies and products that are cost-effective;
    • use of renewable energy sources for own consumption;
    • environmental protection through GHG emissions reduction;
    • increasing public awareness of the importance of energy efficiency.
