Italian energy company Enel has initiated the sale of its assets in Romania, Reuters has reported. Just a week ago Romanian state-owned power utility Hidroelectrica invited bids to select an adviser for the acquisition of Enel’s and Czech energy company CEZ’s assets in Romania.

The sale of Enel’s operations in Romania is being led by French bank BNP Paribas, sources told Reuters, the news agency reported, adding that the assets are expected to value about EUR 1 billion.

Enel has 534 MW of installed capacity in wind farms and solar power plants

Enel has 534 MW of installed capacity in wind farms and solar power plants, supplying 2,9 million customers. Its operations include three companies – Enel Romania, Enel Green Power Romania, and Enel X. The Italian energy company announced the sale of the Romanian assets in 2014, but decided to delay the move.

In mid-August, Hidroelectrica revealed it was eyeing Enel assets in Romania, as well as assets owned by Czech energy company CEZ. CEZ’s assets have also attracted the interest of Romania’s state-owned power distribution and supply company Electrica.

In order to carry out its plans Hidroelectrica has issued a public call to select an adviser for the acquisition of Enel’s and CEZ’s assets in Romania, local media reported, adding that the company has set aside EUR 100 million as a fee for these services.

Hidroelectrica announced that it will launch an initial public offering (IPO) on the Bucharest Stock Exchange in September 2020

Ten days ago, Hidroelectrica announced that it will launch an initial public offering (IPO) on the Bucharest Stock Exchange in September 2020. Hidroelectrica is the largest Romanian power producer, with an average annual electricity output of 17 TWh, generated by 228 hydropower plants (HPPs), with a total installed capacity of 3,444 MW.
