Varaždin-based Farmex, a distributor of vitamins, minerals, and medicines also registered for operations in the energy sector, has started building a plant to produce solar cladding, Varaždinske vijesti reported.

The solar cladding plant, which will produce façade panels, will be built under an investment of HRK 50 million (around EUR 6.78 million), some HRK 10 million (about EUR 1.35 million) of which refers to the production line and the remainder to production and storage facilities and offices spanning more than 4,000 square meters.

The plant building in the Brezje business zone will itself feature solar cladding

Farmex is a company owned by Varaždin businessman Stjepan Talan’s family, which also owns solar photovoltaic (PV) cell producer Solvis.

“Farmex distributes vitamins, minerals, and medicines, however, it is also registered for operations in the energy sector and it is investing in a solar panel production facility, much like one operated by Solvis. Still, it was our strategic long-term decision for Farmex rather than Solvis to be the investor. Solvis will continue its standard production, while this will be a new facility with a completely new production line and new, innovative technology,” Talan told Varaždinske vijesti.

The new plant will produce special façade panels for solar cladding. The output will primarily be destined for exports to the U.S., Denmark, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

The plant building in the Brezje business zone will itself feature solar cladding in order to showcase its product, according to Talan.

The production line assembly, hiring, and the launch of production are expected in the spring of 2020, Talan said. The new plant will create 30-40 jobs.
