CW Enerji has landed a provisional deal worth USD 750 million for the delivery of photovoltaic modules and other equipment to the United States. Another Turkish solar panel manufacturer, Smart Solar Technologies, has obtained an international certificate for solar cells from its factory near Izmir.

Turkey’s industrial base for renewable energy equipment is expanding. The solar and wind power segment is serving developers that participate in government auctions, which have high domestic content requirements, and is benefiting from manufacturing incentives.

Being a major solar panel manufacturer, Turkey is also increasingly relying on exports. CW Enerji, founded in 2010, has signed a memorandum of understanding with a customer based in the United States.

The company valued the deal at USD 750 million and revealed that it entails PV panels and accompanying equipment, with aluminum frames. The advance payment, USD 37.5 million, is planned for this year.

According to CW Enerji, based in Antalya, it should complete the deliveries from the arrangement by 2030. The company added that the prices for the equipment wouldn’t be fixed, but determined in line with global conditions at times of shipment. It didn’t identify the buyer.

Smart Solar Technologies certifies resistance to ultraviolet radiation

Smart Solar Technologies announced that its solar cells passed the ultraviolet induced degradation (UVID) test, obtaining an international certificate. It makes the components, including wafers, at its facility in Aliağa near Istanbul.

The IEC 61215 MQT 10 testing was conducted at the laboratories of testing, inspection, and certification company TÜV SÜD, the update reads. Resistance to ultraviolet radiation is necessary for long-term reliability. The certificate acknowledges alignment with US and European technical criteria.

Established in 2014, Smart Solar Technologies built its first factory in Gebze near Istanbul in 2017. It is called Smart Güneş Teknolojileri or Smart Güneş Enerjisi Teknolojileri in Turkish.

Project for integrated solar panel factory underway in neighboring Bulgaria

Smart Solar intends to build a vertically integrated manufacturing facility in the Stara Zagora area in neighboring Bulgaria. It would make wafers, cells and solar panels and have an annual capacity of 1.5 GW in each segment.

Notably, Smart Solar recently completed a PV plant of 130.5 MW in peak capacity and a 100 MW connection. The site is in the Bor district of Niğde province in the southern part of the region of central Anatolia. The company won state support for the project at an auction in 2022. Called Renewable Energy Zones (REZ), the scheme is better known by its Turkish acronym YEKA.
