The Council of the Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia (AERS) has approved the Transmission System Development Plan for 2017-2026 and Transmission System Investment Plan for 2017-2019.

Both Plans were adopted by the state-owned Joint Stock Company Elektromreža Srbije, Serbia’s transmission system operator.

The ten-year transmission system development plan was drafted in line with the Energy Law and aligned with the Energy Sector Development Strategy of the Republic of Serbia until 2025 with projections until 2030.

“Priority goals and activities include enabling secure electricity supply, electricity market development both on a national and regional level, increase in transmission capacities and the development of regional and Pan-European corridors through Serbia,” AERS said in a statement.

The planning of the transmission system development was based on the distribution system operator needs for the construction of new facilities, generation sector’s development requirements, review of approved applications for grid connection of plants and EMS’ needs related to coupling projects with neighbouring countries.

The three-year investment plan sums up investments on national, regional and European level. These investments have a huge impact on the increase in transmission capacities in the regional transmission network and, therefore, on the European electricity market.

“National requirements include the construction of power infrastructure which will enable the increase in transmission capacities, national market development, increase in reliability of the transmission system and security of supply, and increased possibility for the integration of the new conventional and renewable energy sources”, the Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia noted.
