Croatia has provided incentives for improving energy efficiency and increasing the use of renewable energy sources in manufacturing and private service sectors. The new state aid program for the promotion of energy efficiency and use of renewables in enterprises has recently come into effect in this EU member state.

The Croatian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Energy announced that the Ministry of Finance gave a positive opinion on the State Aid Program for the Promotion of Energy Efficiency and the Use of Renewable Energy Sources in Enterprises that came into force on September 6, 2017.

The program is aimed at stimulating investments that will enable more efficient energy use in manufacturing industries and private service sector, primarily tourism and trade. The other goal is to reduce share of conventional (fossil) fuels in total energy consumption by introducing renewable energy sources in these activities.

For those purposes, Croatia has obtained EUR 100 million from the European Regional Development Fund for the period 2014-2020.

The minimum amount to be allocated for co-financing of a project is EUR 26.890, and the maximum is EUR 268.900. A part of the funds will be provided by the company that submits the project.

Calls for proposals will be published within the Priority Axis 4 of the Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020 Operational Program.
