Electric vehicle charger operator Electrocharge and service station chain operator Petrol intend to install over 200 devices in the next three years.
Electrohold Bulgaria’s subsidiary Electrocharge said it has established strategic cooperation with Petrol to expand the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in Bulgaria.
Over the next three years, the partners plan to build over 200 e-chargers along key roads, highways, and major urban locations, the update reads.
According to the firm, the first completed site is at the Petrol gas station on Simeonovsko Shose Boulevard in Sofia’s Malinova Dolina district, where a 120 kW DC station has been installed. The location was chosen due to its convenient access to both the inner-city network and the ring road.
Electrocharge launched the construction of its chain of EV charging stations last year
The planned network expansion is aimed at providing more uniform coverage across the country and supporting the development of electromobility through predictable and reliable infrastructure, Electrocharge underlined.
The firm launched the construction of its chain of electric vehicle charging stations in late 2024. The charging points have been installed in 18 cities, including Sofia, Varna, Pleven, Blagoevgrad, Lovech, Vratsa, Montana, and Vidin.
The sites are equipped with up-to-date technologies for fast and efficient charging, the firm added.
Bulgaria currently has about 350 e-chargers
Bulgaria currently has about 350 e-chargers, while further investments are underway. In February, the consortium of E.ON, Eldrive, and ZSE announced plans to install 1,400 EV chargers in Bulgaria and Romania.
Eldrive, registered in Austria, is owned by Bulgarian investors.
Petrol operates more than 300 fuel stations in Bulgaria. Currently, the firm doesn’t offer charging services for electric vehicles.
Electrohold Bulgaria is 100% owned by Eurohold Bulgaria. The company is the legal successor of CEZ Bulgaria, which changed its name in 2021 when Eastern European Electric Company B.V. acquired a majority stake in seven firms owned by CEZ in Bulgaria.
