The Government of Serbia has dismissed Bojan Atlagić as acting director of Elektrodistribucija Srbije and appointed Biljana Komnenić as the new acting chief of the country’s distribution system operator.

Since November 2023, Biljana Komnenić has held the position of manager of the Technical System at Elektrodistribucija Srbije (EDS). As a distribution system operator (DSO), EDS is in charge of the low-voltage and medium-voltage grid, supplying electricity to households and companies.

She replaces Bojan Atlagić, who was appointed acting director in June 2016. According to the EDS website, he has been employed at Elektrovojvodina, a branch of state-owned power producer Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), since 2000. In 2012, he was appointed director of Elektrodistribucija Novi Sad, part of EPS.

Bojan Atlagić was dismissed as acting director

According to EDS, Biljana Komnenić graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. She taught at the Electrical Engineering School in Pančevo. After that, she moved to chemical industry firm HIP Azotara Pančevo, where she worked as a maintenance engineer.

Since 1998, she has been employed at Elektrovojvodina – Elektrodistribucija Pančevo, part of EPS, where she was appointed director in 2006, EDS said.

In 2015, she was appointed as the director of the Elektrovojvodina Regional Center within EPS Distribucija Beograd, also part of EPS. After the state power utility’s restructuring, she served as the director of the Sector for Planning and Investments in Novi Sad.

EDS was created after EPS’ unbundling

EDS was created after the electricity distribution business was unbundled from EPS.

A few days ago, EDS and the European Investment Bank signed an agreement on an EUR 80 million loan for the purchase and installation of around 400,000 smart electricity meters.

The loan will be used to replace around 400,000 existing meters. This will create the conditions to additionally reduce electricity losses and introduce more efficient consumption management.

The existing electricity meters will be replaced in Kruševac, Užice, Vranje, Mladenovac, Prokuplje, Leskovac, Jagodina, Valjevo, Smederevo, Šabac, and Lazarevac.
