OMV Petrom and its partner RNV Infrastructure are entering the execution phase for three wind power projects of 305 MW in total. The sites are north and northeast of Bucharest. The companies are envisaging a gradual start of production, with the first megawatts online in the first half of 2027.
The biggest hydrocarbon and fuel producer in Romania is expanding its renewables fleet with a final investment decision (FID) for three planned wind parks. OMV Petrom announced that it is entering the materialization phase for the 305 MW with its partner RNV Infrastructure. The projects already hold the necessary permits, and production is expected to begin in stages starting from the first half of 2027, according to the update.
“At OMV Petrom, our objective for 2030 is to have more than 2.5 GW of installed capacity in renewable power projects together with our partners. We have built a portfolio of solar, wind and hydro projects that gives us the options needed to reach this target. We are moving decisively from project phase to execution and production: we already have 70 MW in operation and over 1,100 MW under development – including the 300 MW in wind. Construction works and equipment deliveries are underway across several projects,” said OMV Petrom’s Executive Board Member Franck Neel, responsible for the Gas and Power division.

FID upcoming for Galați wind power project of 657 MW
The wind power projects are part of a transaction closed in October 2024. It is when OMV Petrom acquired a 50% stake in four wind projects developed by RNV Infrastructure through Electrocentrale Borzești.
The projects that reached FID are for wind parks Gura Văii and Podu Turcului in Bacău county – 50 MW and 100 MW, respectively, and Poiana (155 MW) in Galați county. For Galați, 657 MW, the final investment decision is upcoming, the company pointed out.
Joint venture Electrocentrale Borzești is running projects for 950 MW in wind power and 50 MW in photovoltaics.
OMV Petrom also acquired a 50% stake in Electrocentrale Borzești, with the remainder of the developer remaining in the possession of RNV Infrastructure from the Renovatio group. Electrocentrale Borzești is running projects for 950 MW in wind power and 50 MW in photovoltaics. It also owns the former eponymous thermal power plant, which was put into operation in the late 1960s.
A subsidiary of Electrocentrale Borzești won state support last year for Poiana at Romania’s second round of renewable energy auctions. The two counties are in the Western Moldavia region, to the north and northeast from the capital Bucharest.
Austrian energy giant OMV has a 51.2% stake in OMV Petrom. The Romanian Ministry of Energy has 20.7%, and pension funds in the country control most of the remaining shares.
Greenvolt taking over 50% of Renovatio Engineering
In other relevant news, Greenvolt International Power obtained regulatory clearance for the purchase of 50% of Renovatio Engineering, together with its Moldova-baseed subsidiary ÎCS Energo Continent. The rest is under RG Renovatio Group, registered in Cyprus
Greenvolt Group is a renewable energy producer owned by KKR and based in Portugal. The company has a project pipeline in Romania comprising 555 MW of wind power, 77 MW of solar power and 156 MW of battery energy storage. It is also active in the distributed generation segment, offering on-site renewable energy solutions to corporate and industrial customers through Greenvolt Next.
Renovatio Group is involved in the development of renewable energy projects including engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services, asset operation, power trading and consulting. Its subsidiary Renovatio Engineering operates mainly in electricity production by providing related services and support.
