Sineng Electric from China installs 24 MW battery facility in Albania

Sineng Electric, headquartered in Wuxi, China, said it has powered a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 24 MW, with a two-hour duration, in western Albania. The facility is in commercial operation.

Albania apparently got its first grid-scale battery system, after YESS Power completed the first one in the Western Balkan region, in neighboring North Macedonia. Sineng Electric revealed that it has powered a 24 MW / 48 MWh facility, featuring its 4 MW “central PCS MV turnkey station,” but without naming the client or any partners.

It means that the company supplied a power conversion system and medium-voltage gear. The location is in Fier county, Albania’s photovoltaics hub in the western part of the country. According to the announcement, the BESS is in commercial operation.

Sineng Electric is based in Wuxi, west of Shanghai, in Jiangsu province. Its turnkey system consists of two modular 2 MW units titled EH-2000-HA-UD, a transformer and a ring main unit – RMU.

The power electronics contractor, founded in 2012, installed the inverters for the Karavasta PV plant, which is also in Fier. The facility is the biggest of its kind in the Western Balkans.

Notably, late last year, Fortis Energy declared the start of construction of its solar power plant Ersekë of 75 MW in Albania, and said the facility would be integrated with a 25 MWh battery system.

Energy Vault Holdings said earlier that it signed a deal with EU Green Energy, a developer active in the Balkans, to deploy 1.8 GWh in BESS capacity. Their strategic partnership involves the latter’s initiatives in Albania, Kosovo*, North Macedonia, and Montenegro.

The first project in Albania, for 100 MW in operating power and a four-hour durability, translating to 400 MWh. The site is in Kullurica in the country’s south, where the first half would to come online in the third quarter, the companies said. They expressed hope that phase 2 would be through in the first quarter of 2027.
