Croatian engineering firm Končar has signed its largest-ever contract to build a transformer substation, worth EUR 18.4 million. The facility will be installed for Swedish company Vattenfall.

Končar signed its largest single substation contract to date, in terms of commercial value, with Vattenfall Eldistribution AB Sweden. The contract is worth SEK 202.5 million (EUR 18.4 million), the company said.

The project involves the turnkey construction of the PT 46 Munksund transformer substation, which will be connected to the grid via a 130 kV transmission line.

The substation will increase the capacity of the distribution grid operated by Pite Energi, Končar stressed.

Strengthening the position in the European market

This contract not only strengthens Končar’s presence in Sweden but also underscores its reputation as a key player in the European power industry market, according to the Croatian firm.

Končar has been present in the Swedish market for many years, supplying transformers and transformer stations.

In 2023, Končar signed two contracts in Sweden

In 2023, Končar – Inženjering (KET) signed two contracts with Svenska Kraftnät, the Swedish transmission system operator, Lidermedia.hr reported. The deals were estimated at EUR 20 million.

KET was awarded a project to expand a 220 kilovolt (kV) transformer station in Linnvasselv and to modernize seven 220 kV transformer stations near Stockholm.

In mid-February, Končar took over local engineering firm HELB, with 35 years of experience in the power infrastructure sector.

Last year, Končar reached a major deal with Siemens Energy. The two companies signed an agreement to establish Končar – Transformer Tanks (KTK), a joint venture focusing on manufacturing transformer tanks.
