Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has revealed a long-awaited robotaxi, electric autonomous vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals. At the event called We, Robot at Warner Bros. Studios near Los Angeles, the company also showcased the Robovan and humanoid robot Optimus.

At the beginning of the presentation, Elon Musk took a ride in a robotaxi, which he called Cybercab, after Tesla’s Cybertruck. He said the start of production is expected before 2027, but stressed that he is optimistic about the time frames. The price should be below USD 30,000.

The Cybercab doesn’t have a charging port, because it relies on inductive or wireless charging. Robots would clean the vehicles.

The Robovan is intended for carrying up to 20 people, but also for goods. Other details, regarding the vehicles, like the range or the price of the Robovan, weren’t revealed

Autonomous cars could be 10 times safer than humans and drive five to ten times longer, Musk claimed. The autonomous future is here, in his words.

Before robotaxis become reality, Tesla must receive regulatory approval for its autonomous driving system, according to local media. The company’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software would be used in the robot taxis.

Tesla’s Autopilot driver-assist software is widely available, but its upgrade, FSD, requires constant human supervision and a readiness to take over driving, the Business Insider reported.

The audience had the opportunity to ride in the robotaxis within the Warner Bros. Studios complex, which is designed like a town.

The Optimus humanoid robots talked to the audience, served drinks, danced. Musk said they would be available for purchase and that the price would be USD 28,000 to USD 30,000.

“I think this will be the biggest product ever, of any kind,” he stated.

As for the region covered by Balkan Green Energy News, Mate Rimac recently presented his Verne robotaxi model in Zagreb, Croatia
