Minister of Energy and Mining of Montenegro Saša Mujović has launched a new project for the installation of solar panels on the roofs of households. The Solari Sjever program is intended for the north of the country, and was initiated following citizens’ complaints about air pollution.

Two days ago a panel discussion on air pollution was held in Bijelo Polje, a municipality in the north of Montenegro, and was attended by Minister Saša Mujović.

Afterwards the minster organized a meeting with the CEOs of state companies Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) and EPCG solar gradnja, Ivan Bulatović and Valerija Saveljić, and with the chairman of the Board of Directors of EPCG Milutin Đukanović.

They welcomed the minister’s idea to launch a new solar subsidy program, so he has sent an official letter to these companies to create a special program called Solari Sjever, the ministry said.

Of note, EPCG has launched a solar panel installation program called Solari a few years ago, and the scheme has since been constantly expanding.

Its subsidiary EPCG solar gradnja is about to wrap up the Solari 3000+ and Solari 500+ projects, and to switch to Solari 5000+.

Solari Sjever should offer better terms compared to existing subsidy schemes

The Solari Sjever project should provide more favorable offer to consumers, the ministry said.

Its goal is to register as many residents of northern municipalities as possible who have problems with air pollution. By installing solar panels, the use of coal would be reduced, and air pollution also, according to the ministry.

This is a model to solve the problem, to produce green energy at the point of consumption, and to add new jobs at EPCG solar gradnja, Mujović stressed.

Funds for energy efficiency measures should be available from the beginning of March

Apart from this move, the ministry has announced that funding for energy efficiency measures will be ready at the beginning of March.
