Sanel Buljubašić has been designated as the acting CEO of state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda BiH (EPBiH) as the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina told the supervisory board to dismiss the entire management including CEO Admir Andelija. The decision was made following protests by miners from the Zenica coal mine due to unpaid wages. The company operates within the EPBiH Concern.

The Government of the Federation of BiH said the entire board of Elektroprivreda Bosne i Hercegovine would be removed. It reached the decision after the workers from the Zenica coal mine protested in front of the headquarters of the public company in Sarajevo at the beginning of August.

The government’s action followed a request from the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Miners of FBiH to the entity’s Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić for the urgent removal of the EPBiH management board. FBiH is one of the two entities that make up Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other part is called the Republic of Srpska.

On July 26, employees at the Zenica coal mine walked out due to unpaid wages for May. Miners from all seven trade unions in the sector showed solidarity with their 830 colleagues.

Sinan Husić, President of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Miners, said the situation in the Zenica mine reflects negatively on all other mines in FBiH.

The miners are also dissatisfied with EPBiH’s decision not to comply with last week’s request from the entity government to pay the salaries that are due, which was in line with an agreement signed in early July by the unions and the Zenica mine’s management.

The company said complying with the request would violate the Company Law and the Law on Public Companies of FBiH and pointed out that it didn’t sign the agreement.

General Manager of the Zenica mine Mensur Hukić earlier said that low productivity prevents the regular payment of wages. In the first six months of 2023, only about 40% of the planned quantity of coal was extracted. In addition, the mine’s account has been blocked for an amount of EUR 693,800.

Sanel Buljubašić designated as acting CEO of EPBiH

The Government of the Federation of BiH has given its approval to the Supervisory Board of EPBiH for the removal of the CEO Admir Andelija, who held the position since 2020.

It designated Sanel Buljubašić, a mechanical engineer and former Mayor of Srebrenik, as his successor.

Fahrudin Tanović has been designated as Director of Production. Amra Ohranović would be the Director of Legal Affairs and Human Resources. The entity government designated Harun Gadžo as Director of Capital Investments and Edisej Sjerotanović as Director of Distribution. Nevad Ikanović would be responsible for supply and trade and Sanela Jurišić would be the new Executive Director for Economic Affairs.
