Eurowind Energy starting construction of 48 MW wind farm in Romania

Danish company Eurowind Energy, present in the Romanian market since 2011, is beginning to build its 48 MW Pecineaga wind power plant. It is the first project that reached the construction phase in the current wave of investments in the country.

After taking over the 48 MW wind power project located in Pecineaga in Constanța county last year, Denmark-based renewable energy developer Eurowind Energy is launching the works, Profit.ro reported. The company also invests in solar power and hybrid facilities for the production of electricity.

The future facility in the Dobruja region, known for strong winds, is planned to generate 176 GWh per year, equivalent to the electricity demand of 48,000 households in Romania. It is set to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2025.

Pecineaga to have most powerful wind turbines in Romania

Eurowind Energy is formally the first investor in the latest wave of utility-scale renewable energy projects in the country to lay a foundation stone. The company said it is its biggest wind power project in Romania so far. In addition, the facility will have the largest turbines in the country, it added.

The machines were ordered from Siemens Energy. Last year’s deal for eight SG 6.6-170 turbines was the first in the country in almost a decade, according to news reports. At the time, the project wasn’t aiming at any state subsidies.

Eurowind Energy has 23 GW in projects under development

The Pecineaga endeavor is valued at EUR 79 million. Eurowind Energy said it has a 4 GW project pipeline in Romania. It built photovoltaic parks in Halchiu and Măgurele in 2013 and in Pufești in 2012. Works on another solar power plant are scheduled to begin on 80 hectares in Teiuș in Alba county in Transylvania. The facility is set to be commissioned next year.

The Pecineaga investment is implemented through subsidiary WEP Technology Investment, in which Eurowind Energy has a 72% stake, the article adds.

The company based in Hobro, Denmark, employs more than 400 people in 15 European countries and the United States. It has a project portfolio of 23 GW and more than 1.5 GW under management.

Of note, another Danish company, European Energy, recently revealed it is considering to invest in green hydrogen and e-methanol production in Romania.
