Montenegro greenlights two new solar power investments

The Government of Montenegro issued urban planning and technical requirements for a solar park with a capacity of 60 MW in Cetinje and a 68 MW photovoltaic facility in Nikšić. It is an administrative step in the development of power plant projects in the country.

The first photovoltaic plant will be located near the village of Velestovo, located in the territory of the historic capital Cetinje. The requirements were issued at the request of an individual, Slobodan Čavor from Cetinje, the government said.

The total area planned for the facility spans about 60 hectares. According to the analysis submitted with the request, the proposed power plant’s estimated peak capacity is 60 MW.

Of note, several other large solar projects are also planned in Cetinje.

RES Montenegro Group has received the urban planning and technical requirements for a 506 MW photovoltaic facility, and CWP Europe is developing the Montechevo project, with a capacity of 400 MW.

A 150 MW power plant is planned by a firm called Solar Power, also in the village of Velestovo, and M Energy recently signed the first agreement on connecting a solar power plant of 385 MW to the grid.

Another facility near Nikšić

The government also approved issued urban planning and technical requirements for a solar park near Nikšić, the country’s second-largest city. New Age Energy Tri submitted the application. According to its analysis, the estimated capacity would be 68 MW. The firm plans to install the photovoltaic plant on 70 hectares.

The founder and owner of the firm is Branislav Pejović, according to the business registry.

Nikšić is also recognized as a favorable location for utility-scale solar power investments in Montenegro. A company called Somsol is developing a 240 MW project and TM Invest has a 15 MW endeavor in the pipeline.
