Enel Green Power Romania received a connection permit for its 513 MW wind park project in the Banat area, on the border with Serbia. The utility is set to be taken over by Public Power Corp. from Greece.

The sparsely populated and economically weak Caraș-Severin county could emerge as one of Romania’s main renewable energy hubs. Two months after journalists uncovered a dormant wind, solar and pumped hydropower project valued at EUR 1.9 billion in Socol, Enel Green Power (EGP) Romania obtained a connection permit for a wind park just northeast of there.

Potoc is in the Banat area across the border from the town of Bela Crkva in Serbia

Next to the village of Potoc, the company, which is being acquired by PPC from Greece, has locations for four projects with 513 MW in total capacity, Profit.ro reported. Enel bought the subsidiaries running them more than two years ago from Swedish-Monégasque businessman Emanuel Muntmark, the article adds.

The so-called “king of wind farms” controls Monsson Group, one of the biggest renewable energy developers in Romania, the news outlet noted. Potoc is situated across the border from the town of Bela Crkva in Serbia, in the Banat area.

EGP is preparing to build a 680 MW photovoltaic park in the nearby Arad county

The estimated completion date for two of the wind power plants is 2026 while the other two should be finished by 2028, the report showed. EGP is preparing to build a 680 MW photovoltaic park in the nearby Arad county, a project bought in the same package from Monsson, which has 2 GW in total in renewable energy projects in the area.

Enel has an installed capacity of 535 MW in Romania and 5.4 GW in the pipeline. PPC agreed to pay EUR 1.26 billion for majority stakes in the Italian company’s businesses there and later bought out another major shareholder.
