Slovenia-based firm Interenergo concluded a contract with the Municipality of Čoka in Serbia’s north on the renovation of its public lighting system. The deal was signed by Municipality President Stana Đember, Interenergo Group’s Regional Director Zvonka Schmit and its energy services head in Serbia Siniša Janjušević. It is Interenergo’s second lighting renovation project in Serbia.

Čoka will get modern public lighting as 1,700 obsolete lamps will be replaced with LED lights. In addition to an aesthetic change, the municipality will achieve both financial and energy savings. It is expected that the new energy-efficient lamps, Thorn and Zumtobel, will bring savings of EUR 80,000 and another EUR 10,000 that would be required for maintenance, the company said.

According to Interenergo’s estimate, energy savings will reach 611 MWh. On top of the lamp replacement, it will introduce programmed dimming of the light in the evening and facilitate the installation of new power cabinets in coordination with its partner Smart Energy Investment. It will further increase the new lighting’s efficiency.

Municipality President Stana Đember pointed out that the project is a great leap forward for the small municipality. “The budget that we saved will be directed into other projects, we will save more than 80% of electricity and lower CO2 emissions by about 670 tons each year,” she said.

The agreement to use the equipment for free for several months during the works means a lot to the municipality, Đember added.

“We are proud that with the signing of the contract today with the Municipality of Čoka we are strengthening the presence in the energy contracting sphere in the region. We are delighted that municipalities in Serbia are increasingly acknowledging the significance of public lighting renovation which, in addition to the positive environmental aspect, secures large financial and energy savings. At the same time, we are giving citizens greater living comfort in the local community,” Interenergo Group’s Director of Energy Services Mohor Vrhovnik said.

First public lighting system renovation was in Osečina

Interenergo, one of the participants at the upcoming Belgrade Energy Forum 2023, completed its first public lighting replacement project in the country in 2022, in Osečina municipality. Similar energy contracting projects are being implemented throughout the region, the announcement reads.

The company doesn’t only provide energy services. Interenergo is mostly active in the field of the production of electricity from renewable sources.

Successful green transition includes not only renewable energy sources but also energy efficiency and savings projects

Interenergo is planning additional projects in Serbia for the renovation of public lighting systems. “We believe that the road to a successful green transition includes not only renewable energy sources but also energy efficiency and savings projects, which is why we will keep investing in such projects. Public lighting renovation is one of the leading technologies among energy efficiency projects as the direct effect of such investments is instantly visible,” Vrhovnik added.
