FBiH government, private companies prepare electromobility project for urban areas

The Ministry of Environment and Tourism of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) and private companies Megamix and e-GO are preparing a project for the introduction of electric vehicles in urban areas. At the same time, the Government of FBiH has launched an initiative for incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles, and other measures to speed up electromobility.

Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism Edita Đapo held a meeting with director of Megamix Senad Misimović and e-GO’s director Aldina Hadžić.

They discussed the project for introducing electric cars on the principle of short-term rental in urban areas, the ministry said.

The plan is to start the project in Sarajevo, the capital of BiH, with 22 vehicles in the initial phase and a possibility of expanding to other cities. In practice, the model would be similar to renting electric scooters, which is already available in the country.

Such use of electric vehicles is a novelty and innovation in BiH, and it will contribute to environmental protection and air quality, the announcement adds.

The ministry advised the entity government on the importance of e-mobility in the transport sector and its role in environmental protection and climate action. The document includes solutions for the development of electromobility in FBiH and the introduction of incentives.

Based on all the proposals, the entity government made several decisions.

The first is to submit a proposal to the Council of Ministers of BiH to amend regulations related to customs and tax policy and adopt incentives for importing electric and hybrid vehicles. It said it would send a request to the entity parliament to discuss a draft law on the FBiH Fund for Environmental Protection and allow the preparation of incentive mechanisms for electromobility.

The third point is to speed up the planning and financing of e-chargers on the entity’s territory and consider providing subsidies for the purchase of EVs.

The government decided to recommend to the ten cantons that make up the entity to consider financial and non-financial incentives. The other entity in Bosnia in Herzegovina is called the Republic of Srpska.
