Interenergo to install another 1.5 MW in rooftop photovoltaics for cement maker Salonit Anhovo

Ljubljana-based Interenergo will expand the Slovenian cement maker Salonit Anhovo’s rooftop solar power plant by 1.5 MW. It already installed 2.2 MW, one of the largest facilities of the kind in the country.

Interenergo, a subsidiary of Austrian energy company Kelag, has announced that it signed a contract with Salonit Anhovo on the installation of solar panels with a total capacity of 1.5 MW on the roofs of its cement plant near Anhovo in the west of Slovenia.

“Our path to green transition with our partner Salonit Anhovo continues,” said Interenergo, one of the participants at the upcoming Belgrade Energy Forum 2023.

The investment will further reduce Salonit’s carbon footprint, enabling its greater energy self-sufficiency and independence and demonstrating its commitment to sustainability, the statement adds.

The solar power panels will be connected gradually by the end of the year

The total planned capacity will be 3.7 MW, Salonit noted and added that the panels would be installed on all suitable roofs and connected gradually by the end of the year.

The company added the strategic partnership with Interenergo is an important step in its development plans. It envisages 40% of the electricity for production facilities to be sourced from renewables in 2025.

Salonit Anhovo will buy all the electricity produced from solar facilities directly from Interenergo and use it completely in its production, without paying the transmission and distribution grid fees, the cement producer said.

Tomaž Vuk, a member of the board of Salonit Anhovo, said that with renewable energy sources, it is important to always look for the best solutions, including establishing partnerships with various specialized and professional organizations.

“A breakthrough in the clean energy sector is only possible with the cooperation of different companies and sectors. With Interenergo, we share common values, goals and vision of green transition,” Vuk added.
