Germany-based Profine Energy said it would build two solar power plants with a combined capacity of 550 MW in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia and that the facilities would include battery storage. The firm is a joint venture between PVC doors and windows manufacturer Profine and energy company Wirth Group.

A solar power plant with a capacity of 450 MW will be installed next to a carbon-free industrial park in Serbia. The investment is estimated at EUR 2 billion, owner and manager of Profine Peter Mrosik said at a press conference in Sofia, SeeNews reported.

The industrial park should be built over 800 hectares between Novi Sad and the capital Belgrade. The solar power plant in BiH, where Profine has a factory, would have a capacity of 100 MW.

The solar plant would supply the factories in the industrial park

At the end of June last year, Mrosik met with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, to discuss the expansion of the company’s location in the country, a 600,000 square meter property.

At the time, Profine said it planned to build a production site to serve as a hub for South-Eastern Europe and a photovoltaic system.
The company added that the power plant, operated by Profine Energy, would supply production facilities in the park.

Profine said it would invest EUR 1 billion in Bulgaria

Mrosik now also said the joint venture is planning a EUR 25 million solar panel factory in Montana in the northwest of Bulgaria.

The investment will be implemented if the company proceeds with a proposed floating solar power project on the Ogosta artificial lake in the same area. Environmentalists and a group of locals oppose the planned facility, which would have 500 MW to 1.5 GW capacity.

Profine Energy said in November that it is prepared to invest EUR 1 billion in Bulgaria.
