EPCG – Željezara Nikšić, a subsidiary of Montenegrin power utility Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), intends to start manufacturing racking equipment for ground-mounted and rooftop solar panels within two months, Executive Director Đorđije Manojlović said.

Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) recently took over the defunct steelworks Željezara in Nikšić from Tosçelik, based in Turkey, for EUR 20 million.

Đorđije Manojlović said the new firm EPCG – Željezara Nikšić launched operations on February 20 and that so far 200 workers from the shuttered steelworks have been hired. Very soon the firm will open new positions, local media reported.

According to Manojlović, the new company’s business plan envisages having 340 employees, and it will take one and a half to two months to prepare for the start of manufacturing. The first two units will make steel and aluminum mounting systems, he added.

Preparations for the installation of a 10 MW solar power plant have begun

EPCG – Željezara Nikšić will be EPCG’s partner in the construction of solar power plants, according to Manojlović. The steel support structures will be used by EPCG in its ground-mounted solar power plants on the ground while the aluminum solar racking will be for rooftop systems, he explained.

A commercial solar power plant is expected to be put into operation in several months, Manojlović added. According to earlier announcements, it is planned to have 47 MW in capacity. The plan is to install a solar power plant on land and roofs within the Željezara steel plant.

Đukanović: Income from electricity exports reached EUR 56 million since the beginning of the year

He said EPCG – Željezara Nikšić is preparing to build a 10 MW solar power plant, its first project.

Of note, Milutin Đukanović, president of the Board of Directors of EPCG, said the company has earned more than EUR 56 million from electricity exports in the first two months of 2023.
