Branislav Savić, head of Ball Packaging Europe Belgrade Ltd., said Ball Corporation gives great significance to environmental protection as its responsibility. The international packaging business came in 24th at 2016 Newsweek Green Rankings, published last month.

The magazine’s annual chart assesses the overall environmental performance of the 500 largest publicly traded companies in the United States and the 500 largest publicly traded companies in the world.

Aluminum itself, which our products are made of, is one of the most ecologically efficient materials

“Aluminium itself, which our products are made of, is one of the most ecologically efficient materials. The dedication of our factory in Serbia to ecology is confirmed by data – between 2012 and 2014 we increased energy efficiency by 8% and water usage efficiency by 32%, and we also cut total waste per product unit by 45%,” Savić said.

He added the company founded Recan foundation, immediately after arriving to Serbia in 2005, to work in the area of recycling. Last year and in 2014 alone it communicated directly through its activities with 700,000 citizens, mostly youths and children, and collected 13 metric tonnes of used cans, according to Savić.

“Sustainability is critical to our stakeholders, and is vital to Ball’s long-term success and our Drive for 10 vision,” said Bjoern Kulmann, Ball’s director of sustainability. “We are proud to be considered one of the top green companies in the U.S., and as one of the largest canmakers in the world and a leader in the aerospace industry, we must continue to put the right people, processes and partners in place to help us become a more successful and sustainable enterprise.”

Ball said that by balancing the economic, environmental and social impacts of its businesses and products in decision making throughout the year, it continues to create shared value for the company and its stakeholders.
