Korean firms looking for opportunities in green energy

Blerand Stavileci, minister of economic development, visited South Korea, holding meetings with officials and representatives of companies, particularly those in the energy sector and information and communications technology (ICT). The trip ahead of a return visit was realized with the support of the World Bank, which is one of the biggest supporters of these two sectors in Kosovo*, the ministry said.

The Kosovar* minister spoke with hosts about the construction of Kosova e Re thermal power plant, energy efficiency, energy sources and new models of smart energy as opportunities for Korean companies to investing in Kosovo*. He held meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea Internet and Security Agency, the National Information Society Agency, the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, KT Corporation (formerly Korea Telecom), and other ICT and energy companies.

Stavileci said Korean companies are interested in investments in Kosovo’s* market and added the ministry and the government have taken steps to improve the business environment, with a high priority placed on ICT and the energy sector.

South Korea is supporting Kosovo* in the development of the ICT sector through Korea Green Growth Trust Fund in project ’Innovative Growth for Rural Areas in Kosovo’ implemented by the World Bank.

* This designation is without prejudice to positions on status and is in line with UNSCR 1244/99 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence.
