The possibility to build an assembly plant for electric vehicles with locally sourced components is considered by JAC Motors, maker of passenger cars and heavy vehicles. The news was published by Bulgaria’s Ministry of Economy after a meeting with the Chinese company’s officials. JAC sees the Black Sea country as an entry point to European markets for its electric-powered automobiles and buses, according to the press release.

The manufacturer based in Hefei in Anhui province in central China will find partners for cooperation in Bulgaria, where an automotive cluster was established this year, deputy minister Lyuben Petrov said. He stressed the number of companies in the sector has grown significantly and that the country has a tradition in producing electric-powered and other forklift trucks. Bulgarian components are in 80% of cars in the world, he stated.

JAC, or China Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co. Ltd., was founded in 1964, and listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2001. The company has said its annual production capacity in facilities throughout the world is over 700,000 complete vehicles and 500,000 engines.
