Stellantis will start manufacturing its electric car Fiat Panda in 2024 in the city of Kragujevac at the plant of its subsidiary FCA Serbia. The company was established last year through a merger of Italian-American firm Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the French PSA Group.
The Ministry of Economy of Serbia and FCA Serbia (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Srbija) today reached an agreement on awarding incentives. The contract was signed by Minister of Economy Anđelka Atanasković and Chief Executive Officer of FCA Serbia and Head of the Global Corporate Office of Stellantis Silvia Vernetti Blina.
Before the ceremony, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with the representatives of the management of Stellantis led by Chief Executive Office Carlos Tavares. Vučić said that Serbia signed a deal on financing the production of an electric car in Kragujevac. The transitional period will last through 2023 and the production of a model will begin already in 2024, he underscored and revealed it will be Fiat Panda.
The contract is for an investment of EUR 190 million
The contract with Stellantis is for an investment of EUR 190 million, and Serbia will provide EUR 48 million, he said, according to the president’s PR office.
Vučić stressed the key question is no longer how many people will be employed, but how many people that can keep up with state-of-the-art technologies will there be in Serbia.
Tavares: We will be proud when electric vehicles get off the conveyor belt in the next several years
“The information that Stellantis will have a bit fewer than 80 or 100 new models by 2030 is also very important. It is completely clear to you what kind of a revolution is in the making in the automotive market,” Vučić pointed out.
Stellantis’s CEO Carlos Tavares said the contract with Serbia is a clear and concrete move toward a successful transformation of the firm and the switch to the new technology.
“We will be proud when electric vehicles get off the conveyor belt in the next several years,” Tavares stated.
