Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE) confirmed to SeeNews it will start trading large amounts of electricity from renewable sources on the country’s power exchange CROPEX in the beginning of next year.

In line with the Law on Renewable Energy Sources and Highly Efficient Cogeneration adopted in parliament in September, HROTE will act as a balance responsible party for renewable energy projects within the feed-in scheme in Croatia and will sell on the power from renewables from January 1, a spokesperson told SeeNews in response to an emailed inquiry. This move is expected to provide a big boost to liquidity on CROPEX, the article adds.

Currently, electricity suppliers are obliged to purchase electricity from renewable sources under the feed-in scheme from Hrote at regulated prices. The regulator has named CROPEX, which was launched in February, as a nominated electricity market operator (NEMO) for a single day-ahead and intraday market coupling for the next four years.

In other news, on May 19 CROPEX marked the 100th day of continuous trading on its day-ahead market with total volume of 100.7 GWh. Average daily volume for the first half of the period was 544 MWh, and for the other 50 days it increased to 1.47 GWh.
