Montenegrin households and companies are showing great interest in installing solar panels for the production of electricity for self-consumption. So far, 14,000 homes and 800 companies have applied to the public call of power utility Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) for the subsidized installation of photovoltaic panels, and the planned target was 3,000 for households and 500 for firms.

EPCG has offered citizens and businesses to install solar panels, and in return, they have to repay the investment within six to ten years without paying any other expenses. The monthly installment will be lower than the average electricity bill, as previously announced by EPCG, and when the repayment is over, the electricity will be free.

The interest for solar panels is almost five times higher than planned

According to EPCG, since November 1, 2021, when the Solari 3,000+ and Solari 500+ projects were launched, approximately 14,000 households and more than 800 legal entities have applied.

Due to the great interest of citizens, the deadline for applications, which was original until January 31, has been extended to February 28, EPCG said.

Driven by good results, EPCG plans a Solari 5,000+ project worth EUR 70 million with a total installed capacity of 70 MW. The project will include 4,000 households, 500 residential buildings, 500 companies, and public institutions.

EPCG plans to offer the installation of solar panels for another 5,000 consumers

After all these projects are finished, Montenegro could get solar power plants on roofs with more than 100 MW installed, equivalent to a new power plant.

The Solari 3,000+ and Solari 500+ projects are expected to provide solar panels with a capacity of 30 MW.

EPCG plans to install photovoltaic panels with a total capacity of up to 10 kW in households and from 10 to 30 kW in companies. The company plans to finish the job within six months from the signing of the financing agreement.
