Tekno Ray Solar, with its Italian partner Enerray, opened Turkey’s largest photovoltaic facility, which in the first stage has production capacity of 18.5 MW. It is located in the central Anatolian province of Konya.

The plant, planned for 22.5 MW, will meet electricity demand of more than 20,000 households, the company said in a press release. The power generating facility consists of 74,000 solar power panels on 430,000 square meters of land. Company representatives said it took eight months for 400 people to build it.

The power plant will meet the electricity demands of more than 20,000 households.

“The Konya Kızören Solar Power Plant is the biggest of its kind of Turkey. We believe that solar energy will grow rapidly in our country,” said Tekno Group’s chief executive Altay Coşkunoğlu. He stressed the importation level in solar energy industry is 50%, much lower than in coal and natural gas sectors. Enerray’s head Michele Scandellari said Tekno Ray Solar is their first foreign partner.

Coşkunoğlu told PV Magazine the group expects up to 600 MW to be completed in Turkey by the end of the year and reach 1 GW. All projects are in the unlicenced segment, meaning up to 1 MW each, he added.
