Intergovernmental development organization International Management Group (IMG) will implement the project of the construction of a recycling facility in Bajina Bašta financed by a EUR 175,000 donation from Sweden. The municipality, located in Serbia’s west, provides another EUR 25,000, according to the agreement.

Radomir Filipović, head of local authority, said the project covers primary separation and particular waste flows as well as bulky waste, Blic daily’s portal reported. According to the article, Bajina Bašta is the most successful in Serbia by the recycling rate, with 14%. Nedeljko Milosavljević, chief of regional landfill Duboko, utilized by nine municipalities and cities, said the plan for this year is to collect 5,300 tonnes in Bajina Bašta, from which 750 tonnes should be recycled.

Stana Božović, state secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, said Serbia has seven other centres like Duboko, that 18 more should be opened and that the separation and recycling rate should be lifted from 5% to 50%. She added the facility in Bajina Bašta will contribute to the operation of the regional landfill.
