SET Green Technology plans to build four biogas power plants in Šabac, with a total capacity of 4 MW. The investment is estimated at EUR 12 million and the first facility will be put into operation by the end of the year.

The biogas boom in Serbia is fueled by state incentives that are intended to increase the share of renewables in total energy consumption. Cogeneration biogas power plants receive from 15 to 18.3 euro cents per kilowatt-hour of electricity produced.

Expected annual output of electricity is 34 GWh, combined with 36 GWh of heat

There are currently 131 biogas power plants with a capacity of 110 MW in the register of privileged and temporarily privileged producers of energy from renewable energy sources. However, only about 30 are finished, while the rest are under construction including four facilities planned by SET Green Technology power plants, which will also receive feed-in tariffs.

The company’s director Miloš Srećković told Balkan Green Energy News that SET Green Technology would put four power plants into operation, each with a capacity of 1 MW, and that their estimated production would be around 34 GWh of electricity and around 36 GWh of heat.

He said wheat and soybean straw, corn stalks and the whey from a nearby dairy factory would be the raw materials for the farm.

A network of subcontractors has been developed for the delivery of raw materials

Each of the power plants will have its own combination of raw materials.

The four facilities will use all types of organic waste, in addition to the basic raw materials, to contribute to environmental protection and safe disposal of organic waste, said Srećković, adding a network of subcontractors for raw materials delivery in the Mačva area in western Serbia has been set up.

The first power plant should be put into operation by the end of this year. The second and third one should be finished by mid-2022 while the fourth is scheduled to come online in 2023.
