The EU Sustainable Energy Week or EUSEW is taking place in a digital format from October 25 to 29 and registration will open in September. Events will be held throughout the continent and outstanding individuals and projects will be awarded for innovation in energy efficiency and renewables.

The EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) is a two month-long series of activities across Europe promoting secure, clean and efficient energy. It brings together policymakers, stakeholders and citizens to achieve climate and energy goals for the Energy Union.

This year Sustainable Energy Days will be organized in September and October. Digital activities and events will be held by local public and private organizations across Europe to promote clean energy and energy efficiency and marketed under the hashtag #EUSEW2021. The deadline for applications is October 15.

EUSEW’s main program is scheduled for October 25 to 29 and registration starts on September 7. The event will comprise a three-day digital Policy Conference, the EUSEW Awards, the second European Youth Energy Day as well as 1:1 video meetings, virtual stands and other networking activities.

Opportunity for networking

The virtual Networking Village complements the Policy Conference, featuring small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups, industry and professional associations, networks of national, regional and local authorities, consumer and youth associations and citizens’ groups. It fosters deep social connections and information-sharing by bringing together key players in the field of sustainable energy.

The public can vote for the EU Sustainable Energy Awards from September 14 to October 22

The EU Sustainable Energy Awards recognize outstanding individuals and projects for their engagement and innovation in energy efficiency and renewables. Finalists among the clean, secure and efficient energy endeavors on the list are planned to be announced on September 14, followed by a public vote for the Citizens’ Award, Woman in Energy Award and Young Energy Trailblazer Award until October 22.

The Policy Conference is dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use. It will be held in a digital format for the second time, under the theme ‘Towards 2030: Reshaping the European Energy System’. Public authorities, energy agencies, industry associations, businesses, civil society organisations and the media are all invited to take part.

Sessions organised by the European Commission and energy stakeholders will focus on sustainable energy issues, debate new policy developments, best practices and sustainable energy ideas.

European Youth Energy Day with hackathon

During the conference, the second European Youth Energy Day will gather 18-34-year-olds on October 28 to share their ideas on how to transform Europe into the first climate-neutral continent.

A 48-hour online hackathon will precede the event. Participants will work with experts in sustainable energy before pitching their projects to to a jury. Teams composed of up to five participants will develop innovative communication solutions to enhance consumer engagement with renewable sources of energy and energy efficiency.

This year European Union member states launch their plans under the NextGenerationEU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility

Anyone can organize a Sustainable Energy Day and it can be targeted at any audience as long as the activity clearly highlights the importance of clean energy and energy efficiency. The theme is particularly relevant as this year European Union member states launch their plans under the NextGenerationEU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility.

Events can be focused on awareness raising, technologies or policies. They can address a local community or even an entire region. So far there are three events scheduled in the region tracked by Balkan Green Energy News: in Ankara, Nicosia and Athens.

The European Commission launched EUSEW in 2006. This year it is organized for the first time by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), in close cooperation with the Directorate-General for Energy.
