State-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Crne Gore has presented its project Solari 3,000+, which envisages the installation of solar panels on 3,000 households. EPCG will provide solar panels, the financing and installation, and citizens will repay the equipment in the form of loan over a period of five to seven years.

Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) wants to use the huge potential of solar energy in the country and to offer citizens the opportunity to produce energy for self-consumption by installing solar panels and become prosumers. The estimated value of the Solari 3,000+ project is EUR 30 million. EPCG is also preparing a project for the installation of solar panels on infertile land and water surfaces.

Citizens will be able to apply for solar panels in a public call launched by EPCG

Preparations are underway for a public call for project financing and procurement of equipment, EPCG revealed. Citizens can expect a public call to apply for the project, while at the same time the company will announce a public call to hire more than 400 people for the installation of solar panels.

The monthly repayment for the loan will be lower than the average household’s electricity bill

Households will have the opportunity to produce electricity for self-consumption and, eventually, sell the surplus to EPCG.

Households will possibly have no expenses other than the loan repayment as they produce their own power, and the monthly installment will be lower than the average electricity bill, according to Milutin Đukanović, President of the Board of Directors of EPCG. He added the estimated repayment period is from five to seven years, and that afterwards they would have free electricity.

The company head also said Montenegro has an incredible solar potential, one of the largest in the Southeast Europe. Podgorica has more than 2,000 sunlight hours a year while the range throughout the country is between 1,300 and 2,000, Đukanović noted. Germany has only 1,000 to 1,200 sunlight hours, but the installed capacity is 50 GW, he added.

EPCG is preparing the construction of floating solar power plants on lake Slano jezero

EPCG is also preparing the project for the installation of solar panels on infertile land in rural areas and on water surfaces.

The company said it is identifying the locations of infertile land suitable for solar panels, and preparing floating solar power plant projects for lake Slano jezero.
