The Albanian Power Exchange (ALPEX) has launched a public call for the electronic trading platform for the day-ahead and intraday markets.

ALPEX was established in October last year by Kosovo’s transmission system operator (TSO) KOSTT and its Albanian counterpart OST.

The deadline to file offers is May 4

Following the agreement on setting up the power exchange, the Energy Community Secretariat said ALPEX would need to procure services for the operation of the day-ahead market (DAM) and market coupling after its establishment and consolidation.

The deadline to file offers to supply an electronic trading platform and accompanying services is May 4, the local media reported.

The cost of the procurement is estimated at EUR 1.8 million (ALL 225 million).

According to the tendering documentation, TSOs KOSTT and OST have agreed to establish a common electricity market based on the operational model of a power exchange for both control areas.

ALPEX will implement the European Union’s so-called target model for the day-ahead, and intraday markets

ALPEX, based in capital Tirana, will operate the short-term electricity markets in Albania and Kosovo* and their day-ahead market coupling.

According to the documentation, ALPEX will implement the European Union’s so-called target model for the day-ahead, and intraday markets.

The target model is the cornerstone for the development of a single electricity market in Europe.

The process of establishing ALPEX started in March 2020 when the Albanian government launched a tender for companies interested in becoming shareholders. It was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in April, and at the end of June the shareholders were selected.
