North Macedonia’s transmission system operator and Croatia’s Dalekovod have signed a EUR 3.18 million contract on the reconstruction of the 400/110 kV Bitola 2 substation.
The agreement marks the last phase of the facility’s overhaul. The substation is an important hub for the country’s transmission system. It is connected to the largest electricity producer in the country – power plant REK Bitola, to one of the two power lines with Greece and the first power line with Albania which is under construction.
Croatia’s Dalekovod won the deal with the best offer. The contract includes reconstruction of the 400 kV and 110 kV distribution facilities in the Bitola 2 substation. The deadline to finish the job is 36 months.

MEPSO is investing EUR 2.2 million from own funds while the rest is a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The reconstruction of Bitola 2 is worth EUR 6.4 million in total. About EUR 1 million is the estimated value of the 13 switches for the 400 kV distribution facility, and another EUR 2.4 million is earmarked for the 400/110 kV energy transformer.
MEPSO CEO Eva Šukleva said that due to the importance of the substation, its reconstruction has been implemented in several phases.
The investment will increase the security of supply and reduce the operational costs of MEPSO, she added.
The contract was signed by Šukleva and Nikola Mazar, the representative of Dalekovod.
