A cleanup action at Pionirski Grad in Belgrade’s Košutnjak forest, the central event of World Cleanup Day, will be organized on September 21, Ekostar Pak, one of the organizers, said in a press release.

Ekostar Pak invites all environmentalists and philanthropists, and all people of good will, to join the cleanup action and to bring some food (flour, sugar, oil, cans, soup bags) and basic hygiene supplies (soap, bath products, laundry detergents, toothbrushes, toothpastes) to the Red Cross stand for distribution to socially disadvantaged families.

The organizer also invites citizens to bring plastic bottle caps and donate them to the association Bottle Cap for Handicap.

The action in Pionirski Grad will also be the final event of the Trash Challenge Serbia campaign, implemented over the past six months by Ekostar Pak, a national producer responsibility organization for packaging waste, and Trash Hero association with partners. During Trash Challenge Serbia, more than 40 actions across Serbia with more than 3,000 participants were conducted.

The action is also part of the SBB Foundation’s anti-littering campaign (Ne prljaj, nemaš izgovor), which included Serbia in a global social action program for raising environmental awareness and bringing change to end the waste epidemic that is threatening the planet, organizers said.

As a conclusion of Solidarity Week (September 14-21), in cooperation with the Red Cross, the action in Pionirski Park will also have a humanitarian character.

“Bring your children, grandchildren, neighbors, friends with you because you will have a great time in nature with Boda Ninković and Jovica Tišma,” organizers said.

After the cleanup action, participants will enjoy a cookout (a beans-based meal), creative workshops, many surprises and great music until the afternoon.

World Cleanup Day is the largest volunteer action that has been taking place for ten years around the world with the goal of motivating individuals, organizations and countries to participate in addressing environmental pollution with waste. The 2018 action was attended by 18 million people from over 158 countries, with over 88,500 tonnes of waste collected.
