Slovenian power transmission system operator (TSO) ELES and electricity trader GEN-I have signed an agreement to form a consortium that will seek to accelerate the Slovenian energy sector’s green transformation through smart grids, according to a press release from GEN-I, part of GEN Group.

The agreement to pursue green energy transformation through smart grids was signed by ELES CEO Aleksander Mervar and GEN-I President of the Management Board Robert Golob.

Electricity companies in Slovenia have so far developed and tested smart grids to a limited extent, under pilot projects financed with regulatory incentives and EU funds and through bilateral partnerships.

However, such an approach to the expansion of smart grids will not be sufficient in the future to accelerate the green transformation of Slovenia’s energy sector, which will require changing the approach to investment in smart grids, the supplier-buyer relationship, market operations, and regulations, said GEN-I, adding that the changes will entail strong commitment and transcending traditional relationships between electricity companies and customers.

ELES and GEN-I invite all those with the knowledge and ideas to contribute to the common goal of green transformation and transition to a carbon-free society

Though they play different roles on the energy market, ELES and GEN-I have each concluded that the green transformation of the Slovenian electricity network will require the cooperation of stakeholders who have the knowledge, experience, and ideas and are committed to change, according to the press release.

The companies invite all those with the knowledge and ideas to contribute to the common goal of green transformation and transition to a carbon-free society.
