Serbia’s Road Traffic Safety Agency has launched tendering to produce an energy efficiency analysis of conventional and alternative fuel transit buses.

Bidders seeking to look into the energy efficiency of conventional and alternative fuel transit buses have until 11:30 AM on September 23 to file their offers.

The most economically advantageous tender criterion will be used. If two bidders offer the same, lowest price, the one that offers the shorter deadline for delivery will be awarded the contract.

The action plan for the implementation of Serbia’s Road Traffic Safety Strategy for 2015-2020 envisages the vehicle fleet’s technological advancement and encouraging the use of eco-friendly fuels and vehicles, the tendering documentation recalls. This includes:

  • paving the way to use alternative fuel vehicles (eco-friendly fuels, renewable energy sources – biofuels);
  • applying regulations concerning environmental protection and CO2 emission monitoring, encouraging the use of eco-friendly fuels and renewable energy sources – biofuels and eco-friendly vehicles;
  • applying the UNECE rulebook, introducing tariff/tax breaks on alternative fuel vehicles.

The Road Traffic Safety Agency is the institution envisaged to finance and implement these activities in cooperation with the Ministry of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and the Interior Ministry, as well as with scientific and research institutions and universities.

The project is aimed at testing the use of different selected alternative fuels in buses in real urban conditions, with the goal of improving energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental protection.

The project task includes, inter alia, producing an analysis of the public transport system on a representative sample of bus subsystems in Serbia. The analysis is to cover elements of the route network structure and functioning, as well as the bus subsystem fleets.

The energy efficiency analysis is to be carried out in real conditions, on different types of routes in urban areas. The winning bidder will need to assess the basic investment and other expenses depending on the type of fuel used, as well as issue implementation recommendations for Serbia.
