Serbia’s TSO EMS completes underground high-voltage cable in EUR 2.7 million project

Serbia’s state-owned power grid operator Elektromreža Srbije (EMS) has completed the construction of an underground high-voltage cable running from EMS’ substation Belgrade 17 at the Plavi Most overpass to EPS’ substation Belgrade 13 at the Autokomanda looped interchange. The project has created conditions for more reliable and secure power supply to central parts of the city, including those with major ongoing infrastructural projects, according to a press release from EMS.

The investment to deploy the 3.2-kilometer 110 kV underground cable was worth around EUR 2.7 million, the transmission system operator (TSO) said in the press release.

“The construction of two more underground cables will begin soon on the territory of Belgrade. One will run from the Belgrade 23 substation to the Belgrade 45 substation within the Belgrade Waterfront complex, a total of some three kilometers in length. The other will connect the Belgrade 45 substation and the TETO New Belgrade substation, running approximately 3.6 kilometers in length,” said EMS General Manager Jelena Matejić, noting that the completion of the two projects is planned for May 2019.

Alongside the transmission line that has just been completed, the two new underground cables will secure reliable power supply for parts of the capital with the most intensive construction works, according to her.

At the same time, preparatory activities are under way to reconstruct the existing 110 kV cable running from the Belgrade 1 substation in the neighborhood of Karaburma to the Belgrade 6 substation close to the Serbian parliament building, which is important for the city center’s power supply, according to the press release.

The construction of high-voltage cables is ongoing or planned in other cities and Serbia as well

EMS is also building or planning to build high-voltage cables outside of Belgrade.

The construction of a 110-kV high-voltage cable is under way in Kruševac, with completion expected in November 2019. At the same time, preparatory activities are under way to deploy a high-voltage cable in Novi Sad, from the Novi Sad 5 substation to the Novi Sad 7 substation, the TSO said.
