SOWI Kosovo, a German-Kosovo* renewable energy joint venture, plans to invest EUR 169 million to develop a 105 MW wind farm in the northern municipality of Mitrovica, in what will be the largest direct investment in the area ever.
SOWI Kosovo’s planned wind farm will have 30 turbines, according to reports.
The project is now being reviewed by the government, Kosovo* Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said in a press release. Haradinaj also tweeted that he is “delighted” to see the project being implemented.
Kosovo* Minister of Trade and Industry Endrith Shala was quoted as saying that “this is the year of economic development” and that “it will enable our young people to have sustainable employment in their country.”
Agreement on connecting future wind farm to Kosovo* grid signed last May
In May 2018, Kosovo*’s transmission system operator (TSO) KOSTT and SOWI Kosovo signed an agreement on connecting the wind farm, called Selaci 1, 2 and 3, to the power grid of Kosovo*.
According to a press release from KOSTT at the time, the 105 MW wind farm, located in the northern part of Bajgora in the Mitrovica municipality, is expected to be online in 2020.
SOWI Kosovo is a full-service provider whose expertise is the design, construction, financing, and operation of renewable energy facilities, according to the joint venture’s website.
In cooperation with the local partners and license holders, SOWI Kosovo seeks to provide green energy solutions for Kosovo*, and also serves as an investor forum for already licensed renewable energy activities in Kosovo*.
* This designation is without prejudice to positions on status and is in line with UNSCR 1244/99 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence.
