The Board of Directors of Romanian power distribution and supply company Electrica has decided to appoint Georgeta Corina Popescu as new CEO, for a four-year term.

She was interim CEO of Electrica from November 1, 2018, after former CEO Dan Catalin Stancu resigned.

“The Romanian energy market is undergoing a profound transformation period, and for the Electrica Group it is essential to respond quickly to the new challenges. The activity optimization processes remain a priority for us in the near future, both in the distribution segment and in the supply area, as well as the modernization of the distribution infrastructure”, she said, according to Electrica’s press release.

Popescu is graduate of the Faculty of Power Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest. Since 2007, Popescu has worked in the private sector, holding senior positions in E.ON Romania Group and OMV Group.

Between December 2015 and February 2017, Popescu held the position of State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, during which time she was also a member of the Board of Directors of Electrica.

In May 1, 2017, she was appointed to serve at power utility Transelectrica’s Directorate, and during the period of June 2017 – April 2018 she was Directorate Chairperson at the company.
