The deadline to file entries for the MIT Enterprise Forum (MITEF) Greece Startup Competition, which this year introduces the Energy and Mobility track, is January 31.

The MITEF Greece Startup Competition is a business skills accelerating competition in which Greek technology startups compete for prizes and international brand recognition.

This year MIT Enterprise Forum Greece, part of MIT Technology Review, a media company wholly owned by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), introduces the new Energy and Mobility track in addition to the standard General Track that attracts startups from different technology and business verticals.

Participating in the MITEF Greece Startup Competition gives startups access to practical knowledge, mentorship, and resources to take their venture to the next level. Competition winners are the best of the best in Greece and will receive global recognition through the MIT Enterprise Forum Global, a global network devoted to enabling early-stage entrepreneurs to transform ideas into world-changing companies, according to the competition website.

The new Energy and Mobility track exclusively sponsored by Hellenic Petroleum, as part of the group’s broader initiatives to support innovation and new technologies in the Energy and Mobility sector, will give the opportunity to participants to meet and benefit from well-known market leaders and experts in a highly demanding and focused industry vertical.

The grand prize is EUR 10,000.

All participating teams must:

  • Be technology-oriented ventures;
  • Have a working prototype for product or service;
  • Be incorporated companies or teams planning to incorporate soon. Specifically:
    • The companies must be incorporated in Greece or
    • Companies incorporated abroad must have:
      1. A founding team of more than 50% Greek nationals
      2. Or they have more than 50% of their development operation taking place in Greece
  • Companies or teams have at least two founding team members, with a maximum of six individuals;
  • At least one team member must be currently living in Greece;
  • All participating team members must be at least 18 years old;
  • If a startup company is incorporated, the company must have been incorporated less than 4 years ago by the end of the application period;
  • If startup venture was previously funded, it must have been funded no more than EUR 1 million or the equivalent of USD 1.2 million.

Key Dates & Deadlines

First round: The entry deadline is January 31. During the first three weeks of February 2019, the judges will select the top entries. Semi-finalists will be individually notified and advance to the second round.

Second Round: From March till May 2019 the semi-finalists will be assigned mentors and go through a carefully designed series of free workshops, such as Entrepreneurship and Business Modelling, Perfect Pitch, Human Resources, Legal Matters, Marketing, Finance and Tax by local and international partners. The judging of the 2nd round will be done through live presentations, for the selection of the top 10 teams that will proceed to the finals.

Final Judging & Award Ceremony: The top 10 finalists will get on stage in the first week of July 2019 to pitch live to a high-profile panel of judges, which will select the winner and 2 runner-ups.
