German renewable energy project developer juwi’s Greek subsidiary juwi Hellas has built, commissioned, and put into commercial operation a 9 MWp PV plant located in Central Greece, near the town of Karditsa, for ATEN Energy SA, part of Hellenic Petroleum Renewable Energy Sources (ELPE Renewables), juwi said in a press release.

The system is the largest juwi plant in Greece so far and the first 1500V PV plant in Greece. The design allows reduced system costs for inverters, junction boxes, and cables, resulting in cost efficient and attractive solar projects, according to the press release.

China’s Jinko Solar, the world’s largest solar panel manufacturer, has meanwhile announced that it has supplied juwi Hellas with 9 MW of PV solar modules for the 1500 DC system.

Previously, juwi realized three solar projects with a total capacity of 8.6 MW for ELPE Renewables at the end of 2017, according to juwi’s press release.

CO2 emissions to be reduced by 8,800 tons p.a.

Construction on the 9 MWp project began in July 2018. The ATEN solar park with 27,000 solar panels has been built on 14 hectares of land. The plant was successfully connected to the grid on the October 18. With an expected annual output of 13,500 MW/h, the plant will reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 8,800 tons per annum, according to the press release.

juwi will be also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the plant over the next two years.

“This is a landmark for juwi Hellas,” said Takis Sarris, Managing Director of juwi Hellas, adding that the plant is not only “the biggest plant that juwi has ever built in Greece, but it is a point of attraction for investors, utilities and universities since it is the first of its kind in Greece.” The plant has been certified according to IEC 62446- 1:2016 by TUV Austria.

juwi Hellas has so far put more than 50 utility-scale PV power plants with a combined capacity of more than 100 MWp into operation.
