The Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) of Kosovo* has approved the application of Air Energy for the 32.4 MW Kitka wind farm generation license, the ERO said in a press release on its website.
During its 9th session this year, the Board of the ERO approved the request of Air Energy for a temporary license (1 year) for electricity generation for the Kitka wind farm with an installed capacity of 32.4 MW, a press release said.
The investor of the first Kosovo‘s* wind farm is Turkey’s Güriş Holding. According to the company’s website, the wind farm’s construction has been completed.
All construction, mechanical and electrical installation works were carried out within the scope of Kitka Wind Power Plant, the press release on the company’s website reads.
The power plant’s projected annual output is 95.6 GWh. The wind farm will comprise 9 GE 3.6 – 137 wind turbines with a hub height of 110 meters and a blade diameter of 137 meters.
In August last year, Guris Holding announced the construction of new wind power plants in Kosovo* and Ukraine.
Back then, Musfik Yamantürk, the general manager of Güriş Holding, which is considered to be one of Turkey’s leading renewable energy-based power producers, said that both the 30 MW power plant in Ukraine and the 32 MW plant in Kosovo will be commissioned in August or September of 2018.
Kosovo’s* Economic Development Minister Valdrin Lluka recently said that ministry aims to transfer the quota of 100-120 MW for hydropower projects to solar and wind power projects.
As a Contracting Party of the Energy Community Treaty, Kosovo* has committed to a binding target of 25% of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption in 2020 compared with 18,9% in 2009. According to the Energy Community’s latest Annual Implementation Report, in 2016, Kosovo* achieved a 24,6% share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption, which is above its 21,6% median trajectory for 2015-2016.
Lluka also said that Albania and Kosovo* plans to build a 200 MW hydropower plant (HPP) in the area between Dragash and Prizren.
According to Lluka, the project will receive support from the European Union.
* This designation is without prejudice to positions on status and is in line with UNSCR 1244/99 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence.
