US solar energy firm SunPower agrees Albania market entry

US solar energy company SunPower Corporation has entered into an agreement to launch sales for the first time ever in Albania through local wholesaler EuroElektra, the Albanian company has said, according to media reports.

Under the agreement, the San Jose, California-based company’s photovoltaic (PV) products will come with a warranty of up to 25 years in Albania.

SunPower Corporation designs, manufactures, and delivers innovative solar solutions and services to a diverse group of customers, including residential customers, businesses, governments, and utilities worldwide, according to the company’s website.

In May 2017, the Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed a memorandum of understanding on stimulating investments in solar energy through an auction-based system.

“The government and the EBRD will cooperate in developing and implementing a framework for the allocation, through a competitive bidding process for private investors in the building, owning and operating of solar power projects in Albania with a total combined capacity of 50-100 MW, ”EBRD Head of Albania Matteo Colangelisaid at the time.
