At their first-ever trilateral meeting, leaders of Cyprus, the host of the summit, Greece and Jordan agreed on strengthening regional cooperation in energy sector, particularly in renewable energy.

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II discussed all political and economic issues of importance for all three respective countries and signed several agreements for cooperation underlining topics of their mutual interest.

One of them was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Renewable Energy Sources (RES) which established a foundation and guidelines for cooperation in the field of renewables, all three leaders agreed.

Cyprus Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis told media after the meeting that the agreement signed on energy deals mainly with renewable energy sources. The intention of the three countries is to exchange know-how to promote the RES, IBNA news agency quoted him.

The minister also said that issues of hydrocarbons were discussed as well as some other topics that will be of their ongoing interests.

The Jordanian leader said his country is committed to cooperate in such vital fields as energy, water, agriculture, tourism and health, and that this summit, held in Nicosia, marked the launch of a potentially fruitful trilateral partnership with benefits for people and wider region,
