The City of Zagreb published a tender for exploration works and design of the composting facility for biodegradable waste on dumpsite “Obreščica”, needed for co-financing from EU funds.
The investment is worth HRK 4.5 million (EUR 600,000), and the submission deadline is January 9, 2018.
The Waste Management Plan of the Republic of Croatia for the period 2017-2022 foresees ‘Interventional Measures for Reduction of Municipal Waste Disposal in the City of Zagreb’, which includes, inter alia, the construction of facilities and/or procurement of equipment for the biological treatment of collected biowaste by 2020.
“The Plan states that for waste oils and waste sludge from wastewater treatment plants additional capacities should be provided through the development of biological waste treatment systems, such as composting and biogas facilities. Therefore, it is necessary to begin the construction of a composting facility for biodegradable waste on dumpsite “Obreščica” and the tender was published for research works and preparation of study and project documentation for the construction of a treatment facility for the biowaste on dumpsite Obreščica,” the City of Zagreb said in a tender documentation.
A total area of the Obreščica location is about 180 hectares, and about 5 hectares are planned for biowaste plants, which provides great flexibility in the selection of microlocation, especially considering a large number of privately-owned parcels.
The City of Zagreb has there sites with waste management license for composting and 47,000 tonnes of annual capacity.
