Electricity Transmission System Operator of Macedonia (MEPSO) and the consortium of Siemens and SisKon have signed a contract on revitalization of Dubrovo 400/110kV substation, worth EUR 4.6 million. With this project MEPSO starts new investment cycle in revitalization of the network, worth more than EUR 50 million.

At the signing of ceremony held last week in Skopje, Sašo Vasilevski, MEPSO General Director, said that the company’s mid-term investment cycle will start with several substation revitalization projects in Macedonia.

He said that Dubrovo substation project foresees replacement of the primary equipment and revitalization of the secondary equipment. The substation is located in the area of Negotino, a town in central Macedonia, and it is a vital part of the 400kV transmission and interconnection network.

Within the new investment cycle, MEPSO plans to revitalize several transformer stations, build a new transformer station near Ohrid and seven new transmission lines.

Srdan Srdanović, head of the Siemens’ Energy Management Division for the Adriatic region, who signed a contract as a representative of the consortium, said that Siemens continues the successful cooperation with MEPSO, recalling several implemented substation reconstruction projects.

The Dubrovo substation project will be financed by MEPSO’s funds, a grant of the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) and a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The revitalization should be completed in three years and provide more safe and reliable high-voltage equipment, real-time monitoring system, timely detection and prevention of damage and optimization of the transmission system management.
